Heather Anderson – Strangely Dim

Heather Anderson is a breast cancer survivor, writer, educator, wife of a former Major League Baseball player, and mother. Her commitment to her faith and marriage lead away from her dreams. Join the Tell Your Story (TYS) team as we learn more about Heather and her story of rediscovering the true source of light and joy.

What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Heather Anderson, and I am from Eubank, Kentucky.

What do you do for a living?

I’m an Elementary Instructional Coach.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love to read, write, decorate, and paint. I also enjoy spending time with my family and fur babies!

What are two special or unique things about you that are probably not known by your co-workers and acquaintances?

1. I’ve ate dinner at Nolan Ryan’s house and 2. I rode in a limousine with Olympic gold-medalist Misty May-Treanor on opening day at Comerica Park.

Are there causes or issues that you truly care about?

I truly care about meeting the needs of students including their academic growth, physical needs, and social and emotional wellness.

What is your story as a person?

I initially grew up in a broken home. My parents divorced when I was seven years old due to my father’s alcoholism and violent behavior. Despite my beginnings, I became a Christian at the age of four. My mom is a devout Christian and trained me in the way I should go. Today, God is using me to help disconnected Christians rediscover His light.

What is the main story you want to share with the world through your book?

Being separated from your dream doesn’t mean you have separated from God. So even when your obedience to Christ leaves you feeling like you’re in the dark, take heart, because in Him there is no darkness.

If you had an opportunity to share just ONE message with the WHOLE WORLD, what would it be?

Those who hope in Christ will never be disappointed even in life’s darkest hours. The Lord delights in every detail of our lives – even the ones that shatter our joy.

What does family mean to you? Tell us about your family.

My husband and I got married when we were 20 years old. Three days after our wedding, he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 4th round of the MLB draft. Together, we embarked on a professional baseball journey through the minor leagues and into the major leagues. Easton, our son, is turning 13 this year and our daughter, Scarlet, is turning 12. I love my family with every fiber within me!
