Praise for Divorce and Beyond
Reading Divorce and Beyond is like having an expert team of wounded healers at your disposal. The authors have lived through the mini death of divorce and come out on the other side to renewed heart and flourishing life. The text is both personal and practical, based on the expertise garnered by Bill Koontz, Dan Cox and Paulette Liburd from their experiences, careful research, and over 30 years of conducting Divorce and Beyond seminars for thousands of men and women seeking healing and recovery from the trauma of divorce.
As a pastor who has too often seen the wreckage of divorce, and as a father who has witnessed it within his family, I would say this work is the most helpful guide to healing the wounds of divorce I’ve yet encountered. Divorce and Beyond is not merely a self-help book, though plenty of practical tools are included. At its core it is a “God- help book” as all solid recovery materials must be. If you have experienced divorce and its trauma, get this book. Or if, like me, you know someone who has, get this book! It will prepare you for how best to support them.
—Barry Long, retired pastor, Vineyard Christian Church, Florence, Kentucky, author of Swimming in the Ocean and Ocean Swimmer’s Prayer
Divorce and Beyond shares a wealth of insight and knowledge on the devastation of divorce, and provides an understanding of the depth of grief and crisis, creating an introspective look into your former marriage, divorce recovery and reconstruction. Concrete steps and reflection are given to recover and rebuild, while interweaving faith through the teachings of the Bible. For those who are spiritually driven, this book will aid you in healing from your divorce and beyond.
—Carrie Conlon, BSW, MEd, LPCC, Divorce & Beyond participant and leader
Divorce and Beyond is an invaluable resource for those experiencing the pain of divorce at any level and those who want to help from a biblical perspective. The authors’ transparency and vulnerability make the material uniquely powerful, beginning with the opening sentence of Chapter One: “Divorce is painful.” Writing not only from their personal experiences of divorce, but the authors also offer practical help gleaned from many years of leading support groups and seminars, helping others through traumatic seasons. But more than a “how to” book on managing the emotional and spiritual pain of separation, Koontz, Liburd, and Cox provide solid encouragement and hope for the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for wise and healthy biblical responses to divorce.
—Dave Workman, president of The Elemental Group, former pastor of Vineyard Cincinnati Church, and author of The Outward Focused Life
There is no shortcut, but there is a path—a road to healing after divorce. The three authors of Divorce and Beyond bring their personal journeys and their work with thousands of individuals over three decades to the pages of this book in providing reliable help. And if you’ve wanted help from God, but felt abandoned or were afraid you’d be judged, Divorce and Beyond will help you connect or reconnect. Whether you’re at the bottom of the deepest pit of your life, or are a person who wants to help others out of that pit, you will find empathy, hope, and trustworthy guidance in Divorce and Beyond. This isn’t a band-aid—it’s deep healing.
—Dick Alexander, retired pastor LifeSpring Christian Church
Divorce and Beyond is an incredible gift to anyone experiencing the loss of the dreams that accompanied their wedding day. I have known Bill since before his divorce and have witnessed his initial brokenness and his recovery journey. God has placed on his, Dan’s and Paulette’s hearts the passionate desire to help others struggling with the aftermath of divorce. They transparently share their own journeys through the valley to recovery. This book contains the wisdom and insight gained from over three decades of effective ministry to thousands of others. I’m delighted to have it as a resource to give to others.
